In an age where the emerging connectivity of the global system is accelerating access for ever more sophisticated adversaries – including state actors – information security professionals play an important role in defending not only their organizations, but also the security of our nation. These attackers target vital systems: threatening our economy with strikes on critical infrastructure and theft of IP, as well as disinformation campaigns aimed at undermining confidence in elections and our democratic system. To combat these threats we must not discount the importance of a strong public-private partnership in maintaining security. By understanding how real world intelligence is developed and acted upon, today’s security leaders have the opportunity to help strengthen our nation’s security posture and have a hand in defending against these existential threats.
