Session Abstract: In October of 2022, former Uber CISO Joe Sullivan was convicted in federal court of charges stemming from his actions in response to a 2016 breach of Uber. This move was unprecedented, and raised uncomfortable questions for CISOs everywhere. In this presentation, we will examine what happened, describe why the federal government chose to prosecute Sullivan, and offer insight into its implications for your information security program as well as your career in InfoSec.
