WORLD PASS: Navigating the Deepfake Dilemma
About

Lisa Plaggemier, Executive Director of The National Cybersecurity Alliance, will address the multifaceted challenges posed by the rapid advancement of generative AI technologies, focusing on the threat of deepfakes. As highly convincing artificial videos or audio recordings, deepfakes present unprecedented risks to privacy, identity security, and information integrity.

Contrary to the misconception that individuals who don't use AI products are safe, deepfake technologies can harvest data from various online sources, including social media, putting everyone at risk. These threats extend beyond fake celebrity videos, posing serious dangers such as identity theft, financial fraud, severe reputational damage, misinformation campaigns, and the erosion of trust in digital media and communications.

In this presentation, Lisa will outline the necessity of a multifaceted approach to combat the risks of AI and deepfakes. She will discuss individual actions, organizational measures, technological solutions, and the importance of broader regulatory initiatives. Additionally, Lisa will explore the evolving legal landscape surrounding deepfakes, emphasizing the need for businesses to stay informed and advocate for clearer, more effective laws.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the deepfake dilemma and learn why addressing this challenge requires ongoing collaboration between technologists, educators, policymakers, and the public.
