Greg is a strategic cybersecurity leader possessing over 25 years of diverse IT and security experience who implements a business-first philosophy to security focused on cybersecurity strategy, risk management, and business enablement. Greg started his professional career as a government contractor, where he served 15 years in the U.S. Department of Defense. He specialized in communications and information security, high assurance encryption devices, and cyber risk management of mission critical systems used by the President of the United States, Joint Staff, Air Force and Navy. He then served 6 years as the US CISO of a Fortune 200 global financial institution that provided life insurance, reinsurance, investment portfolio management, and pension risk transfer services. His focus was on managing cyber risk in alignment with business functions, building a mature information security program from the ground up, and achieving regulatory compliance.
In 2023 he was appointed by the Maryland Governor to serve as the State CISO, where he oversaw cybersecurity for the Executive Branch and provided support to other state and local government units. His role focused on developing a centralized state-wide cybersecurity strategy and implementing a mature and formal security program in alignment with the Governor and state legislature. Greg also served as Vice Chair on the Cyber Maryland Program Board of Directors and currently serves on the UMGC School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology's Advisory Board, providing expertise for cyber workforce development strategies and offering leadership insight for higher education programs.
As a vCISO & Executive Advisor, Greg now supports private sector CISOs and helps large enterprises develop and implement a robust information security strategy, improve their cybersecurtiy programs, manage cyber risk, and achive regulatory compliance.
