As AI becomes more powerful and integrated into society, legislators and regulators are responding accordingly and in rapid fashion. Failure of companies to heed regulatory developments can result in financial penalties, reputational damage, and even algorithmic disgorgement of AI systems. This session will provide an overview of the current state, federal, and international regulatory environment as it affects developers and deployers of AI systems, and the technical and policy implementations, including relative to trust frameworks and user experience, necessary to maintain compliance within an increasingly complex legal ecosystem.
The panel of three experts will consist of a lead state privacy and technology regulator, an AI and cybersecurity compliance consultant, and a former regulator and attorney specializing in AI, privacy and cybersecurity compliance. Panelists will discuss state attorney general initiatives in Massachusetts and Texas, and pertinent state laws such as the Colorado AI Act, the Utah AI Policy Act, and recent California legislation, while providing recommendations on how to successfully navigate the overall state regulatory landscape. Discussion will also center on federal regulation in the new Trump administration and differences between the EU AI Act and U.S. requirements. The speakers will give prognostications as to how technology and associated regulations will likely evolve.
Attendees will leave the presentation with a detailed understanding of how their AI development and use fits into the regulatory landscape and of technical and policy implementations that mitigate regulatory risk.
